March for Babies Held at State Fairgrounds
In Illinois, one in nine babies is born too early, and far too many of those infants don't make it to their first birthday.
That's why more than 800 people laced up their walking shoes and took part in the annual March of Dimes March for Babies at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
Families shared personal stories of strife, and teams raised money to prevent premature birth and other threats to infant health.
"We help educate moms on the signs of pre-term labor, help educate them on the importance of prenatal vitamins," Shannon Mathis of the March of Dimes Central Illinois Division said. "The money that we raise, we use in three different ways: local community grants, research grants, and then, of course, education and advocacy."
This year, the goal was to raise more than $125,000 for the March of Dimes. No word on the final total yet, but you can still help them get there. Click here for more information.
