New Eisenhower High School Cafeteria Unveiled
Decatur's Eisenhower High School is celebrating the grand opening of its new cafeteria. It's a state-of-the-art facility, much like the rest of the remodeled school.
The new cafeteria gives students a wide variety of choices, including a full salad bar, a deli sandwich bar, a taco bar, and traditional food choices like Salisbury steak and pizza.
Nothing served is fried, but foods like chicken nuggets are cooked with state-of-the-art ovens.
"There's just new equipment now compared to years ago," Scott Gregory of Aramark Food Service said. "We have ovens that we can cook with a combination of steam, convection, regular oven. So when you're able to incorporate steam into a convection oven, it's quicker, it's faster, and it's a more appealing product."
The cafeteria also has a computer system that tracks all the foods purchased, then averages them over a five-day period to make sure the school meets dietary requirements.
Eisenhower's cafeteria is also used for district food production. All of the meals served at all of the district's elementary schools are cooked at Eisenhower.
