Historic Home Reborn as Coffee Shop
It's been a long six years, but a historic home from the Lincoln-era is reborn. The former Maisenbacher House is now Wm. Van's Coffee House.
Back in 2008, the Lincoln-era home was facing the wrecking ball. That's when the current owners, the Conn family, stepped up and moved the 300-ton brick house to its current location.
The owners credit TIF funding from the city of Springfield in making today's grand opening happen.
"There would be no business on this corner," Wm. Van's Coffee Shop owner Karen Conn said. "I don't think Jackson Street would be what it is today if it wasn't for TIF funding. We wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for TIF funding. Which, in return, means that Obed and Isaac's wouldn't be across the alley if there were no TIF funding."
Conn expects to see a good amount of traffic from tourists visiting the Lincoln Home National Historic Site.
