Local Wreaths Across America
At Camp Butler National Cemetery Saturday wreaths were laid on the graves of our veterans. It's a small part of the nationwide Wreaths Across America tradition. The Civil Air Patrol coordinated events around the country to take place at the same time wreaths are laid at Arlington National Cemetery. A coordinator for the local Wreaths Across America ceremony explains why the tradition is so important.
"Remembrance is a big thing. Remembrance of our veterans, what they've done, the sacrifices, the freedoms that we have-- without any of that at all we would not have what we have right now. We do this to honor them for those freedoms that we do have today and tomorrow," David McKnelly said.
We have people like him to thank for the local effort. It's coordinated by the Chatham Sons of the American Legion Squadron 759 and the 21st District Commander.
