State Gets New Arson Investigation Dog
There's a new member on the team of investigators fighting arson in the capital city.
Meet Jules. She's the latest addition to the arson investigation team at the state fire marshal's office.
There are five dogs in Illinois trained to sniff for fire accelerants. Officials with the state fire marshal's office said these canines help speed up investigations, in part because of a Labrador's ability to smell 20 times better than humans.
"They can go through a building at a much quicker page," Les Albert with the state fire marshal's office said. "Tell us where we're going to collect evidence, where we don't need to collect evidence, and give us an idea of what really happened on the scene."
State Farm Insurance donated part of the funds needed to pay for Jules and her training.
