ISP Releases Concealed Carry License Training Details
Illinois has a concealed carry firearm law on the books, but has yet to issue concealed carry permits.
Monday, Illinois State Police announced the next step for firearm owners to qualify for permits.
The comprehensive training program covers several aspects of firearm handling and safety, one of the most important being instruction on interacting with law enforcement while carrying a concealed firearm. Instruction also includes basic principles of marksmanship, care, cleaning and unloading.
Instructors who have been approved by the state police will receive a packet with instructions and responsibilities for training future concealed carry license holders. With these materials, training courses can begin immediately.
Concealed carry license applications will be available January 5, 2014.
To apply, an approved instructor will have to sign a form acknowledging you've completed the approved training.
