Oasis Set to Reopen Tuesday
Lincoln's Oasis Senior Center is back up and operating, now in a temporary location.
St. John United Church of Christ opened its doors for the group that puts on programs for elderly citizens. These programs include help with filing Medicare and foot care check-ups. The group also houses the area's V.A.
Oasis board vice president Ellen Burbage said the fire was devastating to the whole community.
"When the Oasis burned, it hit a lot of people very hard," Burbage said. "So we're getting the major programs back up and running, and that's the important thing. We have a lot of activities that we've kind of farmed out over the community and hopefully we'll be able to bring them all together also."
The church vowed to let the group stay in the bottom half of the church for as long as it take them to find a new home. Officials say they are trying to decide between rebuilding and starting new.
