Springfield Talks Health Care Savings
Tuesday night at Springfield's Committee of the Whole meeting, several aldermen questioned a potential change for the city’s health insurance review.
Coresource Inc. would replace Health Alliance as the new third party administrator for employee and retiree health care. Coresource's role would be to review and payout employee claims as well review how the health care dollars are spent.
The company’s fee is $1,641,007.26, with a 3 percent increase every year of the three-year agreement. This change will affect more than 2,000 current and retired city employees.
"We can provide information on utilization and where the benefit dollars are being spent and work with the city to identify ways where we can improve the benefits," Coresource Regional President David Parrish said.
He also said Coresource plans to reduce health care costs for the city through their disease management and wellness programs, which can prevent a lot of claims.
City Council will have a final say on the issue at next Tuesday's council meeting.
