New "Green" Roof for Camp Lincoln
Camp Lincoln will soon be making facilities a little more green.
Gov. Pat Quinn recently awarded the National Guard base $400,000 to repair and replace the existing rooftop of their AGO building.
The new rooftop will be a TPO roof, which is a light-reflective roof and is often considered a "green" roof. The idea is to eventually save money on cooling costs during warm summer months.
"This is the second type of this roof on Camp Lincoln," Lt. Col. Craig Holan said. "The first one is on the CFMS, which is now under construction. This is the type of roof that we'll be going with on many of our flat roofs over the next several years, depending on funding."
The project is part of Quinn's agenda to maintain the state's infrastructure. Upgrades are expected to take about six months to complete.
