Property Value Concerns Rise as Schools Close
Neighbors in Springfield's north end are worried about their property values tanking after two area elementary schools closed at the end of the school year.
Students who went to Wanless and Pleasant Hill Elementary Schools will soon go to the new Feitshans Elementary School on Springfield's east side.
No one knows for sure whether eliminating two north end schools means eventually lowering property values in that area but one local property owner, and former Wanless Elementary School teacher says, that is the perception.
"Without this school some of the families are moving away and I don't think we'll be able to attract as many families to live here without the school anymore," Malou Mcquillan said.
No word on what will happen to the old school buildings but District 186 officials have been kicking a bunch of ideas around including selling the property so it can be developed into something else.
