Seniors Lobby for Home Care Funding
Dozens of senior citizens are lobbying lawmakers to fully fund home care programs for seniors. At the capitol today, the group said most seniors are better off staying at home than being in a nursing home, and that home care programs would actually save the state money. Because there are more seniors now, advocates say it's important the state funds programs designed to help them.
"Since we are living longer, we don't need anything cut," Elizabeth Newell of the Alliance for Retired Americans said. "We need things added. We're trying to get these politicians to have mercy on the seniors like they said. We have worked all of our lives, and now that we need this help, to cut it is disastrous."
The group also wants the state to expand the Medicare system for seniors.
