22nd Annual Earth Stewardship Day
Hundreds of fourth graders spent Wednesday enjoying the sunshine and learning how to be more eco-friendly. The 22nd Annual Earth Stewardship Day taught area students how to protect the environment.
Volunteers from the Illinois EPA, and several other groups hosted presentations on reusing natural resources.
A Rochester School District teacher said she thinks her students are learning more spending the day outside.
"They're just able to walk around, go from station to
station and they're able to learn more in a shorter amount of time," Amy Sachs said. "I think it
sticks with them. I think they understand it a little bit better. They're able
to carry it with them inside and outside the classroom."
Students who participated in Earth Stewardship Day tried out something new at lunchtime. The kids brought a "waste-free" lunch packaged in all recyclable containers.
