School Board Member Goes Bald for Good Cause
A local school board member lost his hair today, raising money to help kids.
Tri-City board president Bill Marvin offered to shave his head if students could raise at least $1,000.
The event was inspired by Brenna Westlake, a local child who has Harlequin ichthyosis. Those affected are covered with plates of very thick skin that crack and split apart.
Before the head shaving, Martin said, he hadn't had a haircut in six years.
"When it's all over, and it's all said and done with, it's a feeling that you're helping someone, knowing that you're able to contribute to people that you don't know, and hopefully will encourage others to do the same thing," Marvin said.
The event raised a total of $2,100, which will be donated to the St. John's Children's Hospital.
Students raised the money by paying $2 each to wear a hat or pajamas during school.
Marvin's hair is being donated to Locks of Love.
