Habitat House Completed in Enos Park
When the Enos Park Neighborhood Association and Habitat for Humanity paired up, no one knew exactly what they would come up with, but the wait is over. On Sunday, the two held a dedication ceremony for a new home in the neighborhood.
The townhouse is the first new construction to come from the Enos Park development plan. The proud new homeowner is Tommie Davenport. He rented for eight years before deciding to buy a home and turned to Habitat for Humanity to make his dream come true.
"A lot of people think that Habitat is a program where you're chosen and you do like a certain amount of hours and then you're given a house," Davenport said. "But that's not the case at all. You work for that house."
Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County is a non-profit with partnerships in the community. Volunteers from the agency have built 89 houses in the county, serving more than 300 people.
