Farm Bureau Visits Driver's Ed Class
Some local high school students got a lesson today in sharing the roads with farm equipment.
The Sangamon County Farm Bureau's Young Leaders Program visited Tri-City High School's driver education class. The hope is to show them both how dangerous an accident with farm equipment can be, and how difficult it can be for tractor and combine operators to see approaching cars.
The students took a seat inside a tractor hooked to a wagon and tried in vain to see a car sitting behind it.
"It's extremely hard to see anybody coming up behind you," Ethan Krone of Sangamon County Young Leaders said. "Some days, all you can see is a shadow of a car coming up behind you. Like this morning, that's all I could see. So we just want to make the kids aware that we can't seem them and we want to keep them safe, don't want to get them hurt, and we don't want to get hurt ourselves."
The timing of today's visit was intended to educate the kids before they get into a situation involving farm equipment.
The Farm Bureau Young Leaders Program is aimed at people 18-35 years old with a strong interest in agriculture. Visit their website for more information.
