Lawmakers Approve Physician License Fee Increase
Doctors in Illinois may soon have to pay more to get a license to practice. State lawmakers approved an increase in the fees for physicians' licenses. The House voted to more than double the three-year license fee from $300 to $700.
The money would repay a $6.6 million loan borrowed to rehire staff in the agency that issues licenses.
A deficit forced the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to cut half of its staff last month. That has created a longer wait time for issuing licenses.
The bill now heads to the governor, who said he supports it.
