Mobile Foodbank Feeds Hundreds
Hundreds of people will sit down to a hot meal Saturday night thanks to the kindness of their neighbors. The Central Illinois Foodbank is filling empty tummies in Christian County with nearly six tons of food.
"Eleven thousand four hundred pounds to be exact,” Mobile Food Pantry Coordinator Amy Hagen said.
That is enough to feed more than 200 families made up of about 600 people.
“There's 197 kids that have been served by what we're giving out here today,” Hagen said.
Samantha Garda of Taylorville is “mom” to two of them.
“I need help with them," Garda said. "They eat a lot."
Garda is getting that help thanks to volunteers, including 25 students from Taylorville High School.
“I actually got up at 5:30 this morning," sophomore Brent Frump said. "One guy said thanks this made his week."
It makes Frump’s week too. He is helping the growing number of people in need instead of standing still.
“I could just sit around, but there's better things to do for the community,” Frump said.
The Central Illinois Foodbank serves 21 counties in the area. They stock the shelves through donations from local suppliers. Saturday was the 12th time the mobile food pantry made a stop in Christian County.
