Committee Approves Bill Banning Cell Phones While Driving
Reading, writing, or sending a text while driving is already illegal in Illinois. But now, you may be banned from talking on the phone while driving unless you're using a wireless device. A committee of lawmakers approved a bill today to prohibit drivers from getting behind the wheel using a handheld phone.
Drivers would be allowed to talk on the phone in hands-free mode through a headset or other wireless device.
The proposal now heads to the full House for consideration.
