Durbin, Chicago Cops Talk Gun Violence
U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin hosted a listening session with top law enforcement officials Thursday in the Chicago area. The focus was on the prevention of gun violence. They briefed him on gun violence in their jurisdictions and included ways to address the issue. Chicago's police superintendent said the city and its surrounding county need to crack down on illegal guns.
"Here in the city of Chicago, the number one source of illegal firearms on our streets is not Mississippi, it's not Indiana, it's not Wisconsin," Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said. "It is Cook County."
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is planning to introduce a new gun control ordinance. He's expected to provide details on the proposal in the coming days.
