Trucking Company Responds to Pending Lawsuit
The trucking company being sued over a wreck that killed an Illinois State Police trooper said it has no evidence the driver's medical conditions played a role in the accident.
Dot Foods Inc. and the Georgia trucker face a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Trooper Kyle Deatherage's widow. Deatherage was working a routine traffic stop on I-55 near Litchfield when the passing trucker lost consciousness. His tractor-trailer struck and killed the trooper.
In a statement, company officials said the driver was a military veteran with an unblemished driving record, despite his medical issues. Dot said the trucker was operating in accordance with federal transportation guidelines.
