Ryan Back At Home After Prison Release
Just hours after being released from a federal prison in Indiana, former Gov. George Ryan is back at home in Kankakee. That's the word from friend and former Gov. Jim Thompson.
The Bureau of Prisons confirmed to ABC Newschannel 20 that Ryan will serve out the remainder of his prison sentence under home confinement. He was released from the federal detention facility in Terre Haute, Ind., this morning. He was serving a 6.5-year prison sentence for corruption charges.
Thomson accompanied Ryan on his trip from the lock-up to Chicago, where Ryan reported to a halfway house. He was said to be in decent spirits.
"He has paid a severe price: the loss of his wife and brother while he was in the penitentiary, the loss of his pension, his office, his good name, and 5.5 years of imprisonment," Thompson said.
Ryan will serve out the remainder of his term, until July, in home confinement.
