6 Pounds of Pot Found in Springfield Drug Bust
Springfield police said a joint effort between its Pro-Active Crime Unit, postal inspectors, and the Illinois State Police led to the arrest of Brandon Brown, 26, after six pounds of marijuana were found in his home on East Adams Street in Springfield. A search warrant for Brown's home turned up the pot and drug paraphernalia, leading to more arrests.
Anthony McGrone, 27, and James McGrone, 34, were also arrested, after police found marijuana in their home on East Ash Street. Police said the busts could open the door for even more drug-related arrests.
"It's possible, and we always track down every avenue to see what else we can tie to this," Springfield Police Deputy Chief Cliff Buscher said. "It's a pretty large amount of cannabis coming in. If we can find other dealers going out too and that, we will definitely work all those avenues."
Police would not say why a postal inspector was involved in the busts, other than to say they assist in some of these cases. The involvement of the postal inspector makes the larger drug bust a federal investigation.
