Number of Illinois Flu Deaths Increasing
Health officials in Illinois say flu activity in Illinois remains high, and the number of people who have died from it is increasing again.
The Illinois Department of Public Health said the flu virus death toll has now reached 58 people. All but one of the people who died were age 50 or older.
Across the state, 534 people have been admitted to intensive care units for the flu this season.
Health officials said this year's main flu strain is making people more sick than other strains. Most people can recover within one to two weeks, but complications like pneumonia can develop.
The health department continues to enforce the message: the easy way to avoid the flu is to be vaccinated.
