State Warehouse Damaged by Fire
A warehouse used by the State of Illinois sustained minor structural damage and heavy smoke damage in a fire this morning.
The Springfield Fire Department responded to the call at 1014 E. Laurel St. in Springfield around 11:40 a.m. It took about 30 minutes for them to get the fire under control.
The building contains computer equipment for the Illinois Lottery and vehicles owned by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The computer equipment sustained minor damage, but officials said the vehicles were undamaged.
One employee suffered a minor burn injury, but refused treatment at the scene. No one else was injured.
The fire is still under investigation, but officials said it was likely caused by a faulty heating unit.
