Sen. Trotter Appears in Court
A veteran Illinois state senator is out on bail tonight after being arrested for trying to board a flight carrying a gun and ammunition.
A Cook County judge set bond at $25,000 earlier today for state Sen. Donnie Trotter, who recently announced he was running for Jesse Jackson Jr.'s old seat in Congress.
In court, Trotter's defense attorney argued for "reasonable" bail, citing Trotter's decades of public service and a 26-year marriage.
Trotter was going through security at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport Wednesday when an X-ray screening technician spotted an unloaded handgun and a magazine with six bullets in his carry-on bag.
