Illinois Ranks 25th for Most Volunteers
You could say the Land of Lincoln is one of the most helpful places in the country.
Illinois is rising on the list of the number of people who volunteer. That's according to the Serve Illinois Commission.
The organization says 2.73 million people spent nearly 360 million hours volunteering last year.
Locally, the number of people who offered to help at the Salvation Army in Springfield this Christmas is up from last year.
"We couldn't do what we do here without the support of this community. So we wanted to thank everybody who was a donor, everybody who took their time and volunteered from ringing a bell to taking an angel off the tree, to helping us with our food line," said Deshawn Johnson, ministry intern at Salvation Army.
Illinois is ranked 25th in the country.
The Serve Illinois Commission says nearly 30% of Illinois' population volunteered last year.
