Treasurer Rutherford Running for Governor?
Illinois Republicans took a beating in the 2012 election. So now, their attention moves to the governor's office. Many names have surfaced as candidates. One of those is State Treasurer Dan Rutherford.
When asked about running, he said, "Running for governor is absolutely an option that we will be looking to make an announcement about sometime at the appropriate time."
So why does Rutherford feel he's qualified?
"For 25 years, I have been a private sector executive in a company," Rutherford said. "I have dealt with international. I have dealt with companies with countries, cultures, and companies from around the globe."
When asked about running for governor in 2014, congressman Aaron Schock recently told ABC News he thinks he fits what Illinois residents are looking for in a governor. That said, he is still deciding.
State Sen. Kirk Dillard has already announced he is running for governor. He also ran in 2010 but lost in the Republican primary.
