UPDATE: Lanphier Teacher Investigated for Second Complaint
Springfield police are investigating a second complaint involving a Lanphier High School teacher allegedly having sex with a student. The complaint was filed against Jennifer Tyree, 36. She was arrested and put on administrative leave after claims that she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student. Now a second student has come forward, and police say additional charges may follow.
"That will be once we get done with our investigation and we figure out everything that exactly happened," Springfield Police Deputy Chief Cliff Buscher said. "We'll meet with the state's attorney and then John Milhiser will decide on what the additional charges, if any, will be."
Lanphier itself could also face repercussions. The regional school superintendent said Tyree was not certified to work as a high school teacher.
Late today, Tyree was moved from paid to unpaid administrative leave. The district has 30 days to make a final decision on her employment.
Because of the certification problem, District 186 is now looking at how it hires temporary teachers. The superintendent is expected to make a report on the situation to the school board in executive session on Monday.
