Illinois Rep. Optimistic about Gay Marriage in Illinois
Gay rights advocates were pleased with the recent election, when voters in four states either supported gay marriage or opposed a ban on it. Illinois state Rep. Greg Harris said he is optimistic Illinois is getting closer to gay marriage as well.
Getting a bill passed, however, still remains a challenge. The Catholic Conference of Illinois, among other opponents, says they will fight any change to the law.
Right now, civil unions are legal in Illinois.
