Congress Passes $2 License Plate Fee Increase
A bill that adds $2 to the license plate renewal fee in order to help state parks is awaiting Gov. Pat Quinn's signature. Quinn has indicated he is in favor.
Today, the Illinois Senate passed the measure by a vote of 39 to 11.
The additional $2 feel would go to the Department of Natural Resources to help with the upkeep of state parks. It's estimated the fee would eventually help bring in $32 million annually for the department.
Currently, the cost is $99 for license plate renewal.
This measure was suggested as an alternative to charging an entrance fee to parks.
