Quinn Encourages Healthy Breakfast Consumption
We hear it time and time again--but too many kids still don't eat a healthy breakfast. Gov. Pat Quinn took a field trip to an elementary school to drive home the point.
The governor's program is called Breakfast in the Classroom, and kids received a nutritious breakfast in an effort to get them used to eating before going to school.
And for those who can't, for whatever reason, eat breakfast, the governor is challenging every school in the state to make school breakfast a top priority.
"There's all kind of research that shows that lots of boys and girls do much better in school when they have breakfast," Quinn said.
The state offers a federally funded school breakfast program for children who come from households that struggle with hunger, but less than 40 percent of the students who qualify participate. Quinn's push is to change that.
