High Schools Compete in Blood Donation Challenge
Sometimes you've got to give a little blood to meet the challenge.
Central Illinois Community Blood Center kicked off the 12th annual Springfield Clinic High School Blood Challenge at Southeast High School today--and the more they donate, the better the scholarship money.
Local high schools compete for three $1,000 scholarships awarded by Springfield Clinic and a $500 scholarship for the most-improved school, provided by Standard Mutual Insurance Company.
"Last year's challenge provided a record-breaking 12,966 blood donations for our area hospitals," the center's Anna McFarland said. "And this accounted for well over 25 percent of our area blood supply."
Seven schools are competing in the Springfield area.
Southeast High School wasted no time hosting a blood drive on the school campus today.
