Grant Money for Specialty Crop Farmers
Some grant money is being spread around programs in Illinois to strengthen the specialty crop industry in the state.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said the $630,000 grant will be used for projects that include a University of Illinois effort to improve produce handling at farmers markets and a social media campaign to inform people of specialty crop growers.
Illinois is known best for corn and soybeans, but is also the number one producer of pumpkins. The state also produces large amounts of asparagus, cauliflower, and lima beans.
