Springfield's Lawless Park Dedicated
Springfield officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to show off David Lawless Park Saturday. That's the new name for the ball fields and park on 11th and Black streets. It's named after a man who was a longtime supporter of youth baseball in the capital city.
David Lawless spent more than 25 years coaching and serving on boards for a number of youth baseball organizations.
"Thinking about all of these players that are now starting to be so successful in life and leaders in their generation, and you see the quality of the kids that we had," Lawless said.
Lawless organized the Springfield Pride American Legion Post 32 baseball team. That alone is a huge accomplishment, because it afforded local ballplayers the opportunity to showcase their skills for both college coaches and major league scouts.
