1 in 5 Americans Have Student Loan Debt
A record number of Americans are going into debt for the chance for a brighter future.
A new report says student loan debt is on the rise as more people borrow money to attend college.
The Pew Research Center found 19 percent of U.S. households had student loans in 2010. That's up from 15 percent just three years earlier.
The average student loan in 2010 was nearly $27,000, more than double what it was in 1995.
The Federal Reserve says the nation's total student loan debt is approaching $1 trillion, and the Pew report says student debt levels are growing the fastest for the nation's poorest and richest families.
