CPR can nearly double the chance of survival for people who suddenly go into cardiac arrest. Now new guidelines are making CPR easier. Two new studies support the case to take away the mouth to mouth aspect of CPR for bystanders. The guidelines say that just chest compressions can still help save lives. Experts say there are specific instances where rescue breathing should be performed, especially those involving children. But for those Good Samaritans who are not well-trained but want to help save a life, researchers say that chest compressions alone can be life-saving, until a medical professional arrives.
It's a question many people with cancer ask during and after treatment: should i exercise? Experts hope recently released guidelines will help answer that. The American College of Sports Medicine advises moderate to vigorous activity for 150 minutes a week. That's consistent with guidelines for the general public as well. However, cancer survivors may need to take some precautions, depending on their particular treatment and the site of the cancer. Experts say avoid inactivity; just don't push it.
