Chicago mayor names 2 new aldermen
March 15, 2010 21:01 EDT
CHICAGO (AP) -- Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley has appointed two new members to fill vacant seats in the Chicago City Council.
Daley named Democratic State Rep. Deborah Graham on Monday to fill the 29th Ward seat left empty last month when former Alderman Isaac Carothers pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges.
The 43-year-old Graham also has a post in the Chicago Department of Planning and Development, but said she would leave that position to become alderman.
In the 1st Ward, where former Alderman Manny Flores gave up his post to become chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission, Daley appointed businessman Proco "Joe" Moreno to fill the vacancy. Moreno is a printing company executive who lost a 2008 race for the Illinois Senate.
Both appointments must be approved by the City Council.
