Woman charged with murder in hotel shooting
March 16, 2010 21:23 EDT
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (AP) -- Cook County authorities say an Elgin woman arrested in a prostitution raid last week in Schaumburg has now been charged with murder in a shooting at a hotel there.
The Cook County State's Attorney's office says 28-year-old Kristian Branch was charged Tuesday with one count apiece of first-degree murder, attempted first degree murder and attempted armed robbery.
Schaumburg police say Branch and 29-year-old Mario Charles of Rockford were reportedly trying to rob four people early Tuesday morning in a room in the Homestead Suites Hotel. They say Charles and one of the room's occupants, a 26-year-old St. Paul, Minn., man, traded fire and both were hit.
Police said Charles died, but the Minnesota man's injuries did not appear life-threatening.
Police say Branch was arrested last Thursday as part of a sting and charged with prostitution.
