Train kills woman, child she was carrying in Ill.
March 13, 2010 13:57 EST
NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (AP) -- A 2-year-old girl has died after she and the woman she was being carried by were hit by a commuter train in North Chicago.
Lake County Coroner Richard Keller says the toddler was transported to an area hospital, where she died about noon Saturday. The woman was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities say they were trying to cross railroad tracks about 9 a.m. when they were struck by a Metra train.
A man and second child were also crossing the tracks but made it across without injury.
North Chicago fire officials say they believe the woman was the child's aunt.
Their names haven't been released.
