7-year-old girl shot on Chicago's South Side

CHICAGO (AP) -- Chicago police say a 7-year-old girl South Side girl was critically wounded in a street shooting that was witnessed by an off-duty officer.
Chicago Police Cmdr. Eric Carter says the girl was shot in the head Wednesday afternoon as she rode her scooter on a sidewalk next to her home.
Relatives identified the girl as Desaree Sanders.
She was taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital, where doctors operated to relieve pressure on her brain and attempted to save her right eye. She was being kept under heavy sedation Wednesday night.
Police said they were questioning two teenagers in the shooting, but had filed no charges late Wednesday.
