IN THE NEWS: TRENDING ON TWITTER AT POTUS

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Give people a chance to pop a question to POTUS, and they'll take the invitation and run with it. President Barack Obama took to Twitter yesterday for his first Q-and-A since setting up his @POTUS handle last week. The suggested subject was climate change. But plenty of tweeps were having none of that. There were questions about everything from his favorite breakfast cereal to the boxers-or-briefs query that once tripped up President Bill Clinton. Obama answered about a dozen questions, covering climate change, Arctic drilling, trade and education. He also bit on two sports questions. And then Obama signed off. But he promises to do it again soon.

FCC HEAD SEEKS TO NARROW 'DIGITAL DIVIDE' WITH NEW PROPOSAL

NEW YORK (AP) -- The head of the Federal Communications Commission is proposing that the feds expand a phone subsidy program for the poor to include Internet access. FCC chairman Tom Wheeler calls broadband a critical service for modern life. The FCC says low-income Americans are more likely to rely on expensive smartphones for Internet access. The program, called Lifeline, has been funded by surcharges on telephone customer bills.
