Elizabeth Wooley
WICS Anchor/Reporter

Elizabeth co-anchors the 6 and 10 o'clock newscasts with Jerry Lambert.

Elizabeth made her start with the NewsChannel 20 family in January of 2000 as the station’s First News at Five Anchor. Elizabeth then moved over to Champaign to anchor sister station WICD’s 6 and 10 o’clock newscasts, while her husband completed his MBA at the U of I. And she jumped at the chance to return to the capital city in 2003 as the station's evening anchor.

“Central Illinois has become home to me,” says Wooley. “NewsChannel 20 is a great place to work, and the Springfield area is a dynamic place to live and raise a family.”

In addition to her anchoring duties, you’ll see Elizabeth out covering a variety of topics. Most recently she won a national first place award for her medical reporting from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Elizabeth has also been named "Best Reporter" by the Associated Press, and been part of the Associated Press "Best Newscast" team. Her other awards include the Samter Journalism Award, a national award for medical reporting; The Illinois Academy of Family Physicians top Media Award recipient; "Best Hard News Reporter" finalist by the Illinois Broadcasters Association; and Communicator Award recipient for "Hard News Reporting."

Elizabeth is also on the Board of Directors for the Central Illinois Division of the March of Dimes. Contact her to find out how you can donate to the cause that keeps babies healthy.

Graduating among the top ten percent of Journalism students in the country, this Michigan State University alum also had the opportunity to study in London for one semester, reporting on environmental issues.

Elizabeth grew up in Detroit before making her way to East Lansing for school and her first job in news radio in college. Upon graduation, she became a production manager for a nationally recognized government access station where she won 6 national and regional awards for live election coverage and reporting on government issues. Seven months later Elizabeth accepted a Morning Anchor position at the NBC affiliate WILX-TV in Lansing, Michigan.

Elizabeth is also very active in the community. You may see her hosting the Children's Miracle Network, walking to raise money for the American Lung Association and Alzheimer's Association, or just reading to kids at area schools. “The best thing about this job is the opportunity I have to connect with people,” says Wooley. “For them to share their personal stories with me so I can share them with others is truly an honor!”
