Ben Handelman
WICS Reporter / Photographer
Ben relocated more than one thousand miles from his home state of Connecticut to join ABC NewsChannel 20 in November 2007. He is thrilled to be working as a reporter/photographer in the Land of Lincoln.
Ben got an early taste of a Midwest winter and the challenges of reporting in Central Illinois when a tree limb fell on his head during an ice storm in Jacksonville. Ben (and his camera) survived to share the amazing pictures with NewsChannel 20 viewers. Since that day he has been able to cover everything from snow storms to a work out session with Richard Simmons.
Ben was born and raised in Northwestern Connecticut. He holds a Bachelors degree of Journalism from Quinnipiac University. Ben has been working in radio and television for four years. Just prior to moving to Springfield, Ben spent 70 days riding a bike cross-country... from New Haven, CT to San Francisco, CA. The bicycle trek helped to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. During that time thousands were raised for the cause while Ben helped communities across the country build homes.
In his spare time Ben can be found listening to Quinnipiac Bobcat hockey games, finding one of the great bike trails in Springfield, or looking for a new adventure. If you have a story idea he would love to hear it! Email him at bhandelman@wics.com
